Toys & Accessories

India's toy exports crossed $326 million in FY2024-25, up from under $130 million in FY2019-20 - nearly tripling in five years. The shift happened partly through policy: import duties on toys went from 20% to 60%, which pushed international brands to take Indian manufacturing more seriously. The main clusters break down by product type. Traditional and wooden toys come from Channapatna in Karnataka, Kondapalli in Andhra Pradesh, Jodhpur in Rajasthan, and Agra and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Plastic toys, battery-operated toys, and remote control toys are manufactured in Mumbai, Pune, and Delhi NCR. Educational toys, board games, and construction toys come from manufacturers in Pune and Bengaluru supplying both domestic retail and international buyers.

Traditional and handcrafted toys are where Indian manufacturers separate from Chinese alternatives most clearly. Channapatna - known as Toy Town - produces lacquered wooden toys using craft techniques that go back centuries. European and North American buyers looking for non-plastic, sustainably made toys with genuine provenance source from here and from Kondapalli, Jodhpur, and Rajasthani hand-painted toy producers who supply premium toy retail, museum shops, and educational toy buyers. On the mass-market side, Indian manufacturers produce plastic toys, action figures, soft toys, battery-operated toys, remote control toys, and toy vehicles for budget and mid-market retail buyers across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia - with MOQs and price points that work for regional distributors who can't commit to Chinese minimum order volumes.

Toy certification is non-negotiable across all major markets and this category gets more regulatory scrutiny than most. EN 71 covers safety for toys going into EU and UK markets - mechanical, flammability, and chemical safety testing all apply and must be documented. ASTM F963 is the US equivalent. BIS certification under IS 9873 is mandatory for India. Battery-operated and electronic toys need additional CE marking components. Soft toys going into the EU have specific requirements for stuffing materials and surface fabrics. Check EN 71 or ASTM certification status on every supplier profile before placing an order - supplier claims without documentation are not enough. Use the enquiry function to specify the age range, materials, and destination market so suppliers can confirm the right certification set before sampling begins.
